How to use the web site

Navigation
The left hand navigation gives access to a themed level that draws together services around topic areas i.e. your home, your family, education, and your personal circumstances. The top navigation gives access to directorate level information on services provided by each of the 4 Directorate and the Chief Executives Department. A Quicklinks section located in the right hand column provides access to related information, and each of the major Home Pages provides direct access to those services which are most requested by the public.

The diagram below shows the main Navigation areas.

The Home pages for each of the theme areas (Left Navigation) and Directorates (Top Navigation) manage your access to a range of services allowing you at any time to return to the home page of that service. The services provided by each directorate are colour coded letting you identify which directorate is responsible for the services you are enquiring of. The colour branding of each directorate is also reflected in the Councils printed material. The coding is as follows:
  • Chief Executive and Corporate - GREEN
  • Environment Directorate - BLUE
  • Finance & Corporate Services Directorate - PURPLE
  • Learning & Development Directorate - GREY
  • Neighbourhood Services Directorate - RED

Downloadable Forms
The development of a comprehensive service delivery 24/7 web site will take time to build, however, the Council feel it important that the public have access at an early stage to information and application forms which can be download and printed at home. From a public point of view such a facility will alleviate the need to visit, telephone or e-mail the Council for application forms and from a service point of view will introduce immediate efficiencies. All of the Councils application forms, together with notes to aid completion and fee scales for services are being captured and placed in an area known as MKForms. At present this comprises a list of the forms available to download but is being built into a comprehensive searchable database. As the web site develops towards 2005 downloadable forms will increasingly be replaced by interactive forms that may be completed on line where legislation allows.

Search the Site
A search engine is also provided to search both Milton Keynes Council and the entire MKWeb site at any time. In addition a service wide database is currenlty being developed off the A-Z button to allow direct service searches.
