If you think you may be entitled to a discount or exemption from your Council Tax please use the appropriate form from the list below
You are not counted if you are an apprentice employed to learn a job and are undertaking training leading to a qualification recognised by the National Council for Vocational Qualifications. You must be paid less than £160 per week.
You are not counted if you either provide care working for a charity on low pay, such as a community service volunteer, or if you care for someone with a disability who is not your husband, wife, partner or a child under 18.
Prisoners who are on remand or in prison are not counted. However, for people who are imprisoned for not paying a fine or non-payment of Council Tax, the disregard will not apply. Those detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 are also not counted.
You are not counted if you are a member of a religious community with no income of your own such as monks and nuns.
People who are severely mentally impaired are not counted. For someone to be disregarded, a certificate is needed from a doctor to show severe mental impairment, and the person who is severely mentally impaired must also be entitled to one of a number of benefits.
If you are the only adult living in your home you can apply for a 25% discount
You are not counted if you are a student (which includes an overseas student) on a full-time course of education or on a qualifying course of education. Foreign language assistants registered with the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges are also considered students.
You are disregarded if you are a student nurse on a course leading to registration on Parts 1 to 6 or 8 of the Nursing Register. Nurses who are already on the Register are not disregarded. Student nurses studying academic courses at university or polytechnic are excluded from this.
You are not counted if you are 18 or 19 years old and are in full-time education (but not higher education) or if you are at least 18 years old and someone is receiving Child Benefit for you, or would be if you were not in local authority care.
You are not counted if you are a member of a visiting armed force. Your dependants may also be disregarded
You are not counted if you are under 25 and are receiving training in line with an individual training plan under the Youth Training Scheme.
