Mkweb Achieves the Half-Million Milestone

MILTON KEYNES - 5, December 2002 -

MKWeb, (www.mkweb.co.uk) the official web site for Milton Keynes and North Bucks celebrated a significant milestone in November when the number of pages delivered during the month exceeded half a million for the first time.

For the month ending November 2002 MKWeb delivered 536,851 pages confirming its position as the most popular web site in the local area. These figures complement a recent audit commission report naming MKWeb as the 7th best community website in the country,

Overseeing the success to date, content manager Debbie Sellers commented on the figures,
"MKWeb is a huge success story, our audience has grown tenfold since November 2000. The fact that we are firmly backed by major local organisations such as Milton Keynes Council, Fennemores Solicitors, Milton Keynes Theatre and thecentre:mk :, means we have many more exciting developments planned for 2003 which will increase our audience even further.

The market for local community web sites is currently an open one and there are only a few sites, attracting and sustaining an audience. I'm glad to say that MKWeb is leading the field."

MKWeb's success is attributed to what differentiates it from other community web site propositions. Specifically:

Diverse Information sources: with over 1000 local contributors creating more than 15,000 articles to date we have local information on almost every topic of interest to local people.

Creating Partnerships: MKWeb is part of the local community. It provides an opportunity for local organisations as diverse as the "Longueville Little Theatre Company" and "Milton Keynes Theatre" to communicate with the public at the same level. Any local organisation or business can benefit from MKWeb's to promote their activities or deliver information.

Advanced Technology: MKWeb uses one of the most advanced content management systems in the UK. Developed in Milton Keynes the "Portal Constructor" software is now sold to local authorities across Britain who see Milton Keynes as a model for their own community portal.

MKWeb is self financing relying on local sponsors and advertisers to support it. "These figures are wonderful news to our advertisers who have supported us brilliantly over the years and are now seeing fantastic results from their confidence in us"

MKWeb was launched in March 1999 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Milton Keynes Economic Partnership.
