Black History Month (BHM) is held every October in Britain. The aims are to:

• Promote knowledge of Black History and experience
• Disseminate information on positive Black contributions to British Society
• Heighten the confidence and awareness of Black people in their cultural heritage.

This site seeks to support the grassroots celebration of our heritage. This site will celebrate BHM all year round. We will regularly update it and use it to educate, inform, and build confidence more about Black History Month...

Black History Month is important for other reasons, as in one individual's situation of growing up in the
Midlands in the late 1970's and early 1980's, where black history was generally ignored in schools. At that particular school, the teachers did not explore black and minority ethnic contributors, such as Toussaint Le Overture, Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole and
other black achievers. Therefore this individual had to research and find information relating to historical figures. The lesson learnt was that if information is not being communicated we should -
● Search
● Look
● Ask
For if we do not do this we may remain ignorant of many achievements and contributions made by different groups and individuals in society.
