No community web site can live in a vacuum, and to be successful it has to encourage the partnerships with as many of the organisations that serve the community as possible. There are a number of ways that the software enables this vital process.
Content Control Retained
Experience has shown that the centralised 'funnel' model is not conducive to stimulating and supporting partnerships. The devolved content model on the other hand enables partner organisations to contribute to the site without the feeling of loss of control or the need to 'give away' their content.
Individual 'Branding' for Partners
It is easy to set up a Weblet that has a completely different 'look and feel' that follows the partners 'branding' yet remains as part of the overall site. For example a car crime reduction initiative originating from the local police force can be presented with entirely looking their 'branding.
Community Wide Content Promotes Hits for Everybody
Partners are sometimes reluctant to join a community wide portal, preferring to retain their independence. Although this is an understandable reaction it should be remembered that users make little distinction as to who owns a site. They just want information and will prefer to stay within one site with its consistency and speed, rather than have to hunt around a number of sites. The traffic this generates is a major reason for the partnership approach.
