The No Skills, No HTML, Approach,
Even the best technology is of little value if it is difficult to use. Right from the start is was assumed that Weblet owners may not have HTML or other specialised IT skills. Even 'shrink wrapped' web page creation programs would be too difficult or time consuming to learn. The result of this decision is that the entire Portal can be administered, Weblets can be designed and produced and all the various functions used by somebody possessing only basic IT skills. In the case of MKWeb a number of Weblet owners have only elementary knowledge of Windows and word processing yet they regularly produce interesting, varied and valuable content.
Browser based
The entire site can be managed, and all content loaded and edited using standard Internet browser such as Microsoft's Explorer. Not only does this give total freedom of access it is also a familiar application for most users.
Weblets can really be managed, far more than just Content Management
Although Portal Constructor makes it easy to acquire and manage content it offers a lot more than a simple content management solution. It addresses all the issues concerned with acquiring and presenting content in an easy to use and attractive way. Image galleries, document libraries, archives and extensive search facilities makes information easy to find and assimilate. Databases can easily be created with query results being pasted into articles.
